A Bagnaia breakthrough at Mugello
Mugello, 29 May 2022

‘Pecco’ has his first win in the Italian GP despite the best efforts of Fabio Quartararo.

The Ducati Lenovo Team’s Francesco Bagnaia has scored his first victory in his home MotoGP™ race, the Gran Premio d’Italia Oakley. Despite falling deep into the top 10 in the opening corners at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello, he hit the front before the halfway mark and banked an important 25 points to get his title bid back on track.

World Championship leader Fabio Quartararo was a commendable second on a Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™ entry which had to make up speed in the corners, while Aprilia Racing’s Aleix Espargaro finished third for the fourth race in a row.

Perez wins a captivating wet-dry Monaco Grand Prix
Monaco          [29 May 2022]

Red Bull’s Sergio Perez won his first race of 2022 by 1.1 seconds after a nailbiting end to the Monaco Grand Prix, with Carlos Sainz and Max Verstappen unable to make it past the Mexican – and Charles Leclerc losing out after dropping from pole to P4.

Rain saw the start delayed and, at 1518 local time, drivers completed one lap, heading back to the pits as a red flag was called. Gazebos unfurled and teams waited until 1605 for a rolling race start behind the Safety Car on wet tyres.

The Safety Car pulled in for Lap 3 of 77 and Leclerc led away with Sainz, Perez and Verstappen in tow.

Verstappen leads Red Bull 1-2 after Leclerc retires from rollercoaster Spanish Grand Prix
Catalunya          [22 May 2022]

Max Verstappen won an action-packed 2022 Spanish Grand Prix as pole-sitter Charles Leclerc retired from a comfortable lead. Sergio Perez took second place to secure Red Bull’s second one-two of the season, as George Russell finished third for Mercedes, having been involved in an epic bout with eventual winner Verstappen.

Soaring temperatures weren’t the only problem on Sunday; huge gusts into Turn 4 caused both Carlos Sainz and Verstappen to go off track and drop down the order early on.

That left Leclerc with a comfortable lead and a free pit stop by Lap 22, and it seemed a straightforward victory for Ferrari – until Leclerc’s engine gave way on Lap 27.

Flawless Bastianini pounces to take French glory
Le Mans, 15 May 2022

A Pecco Bagnaia crash handed victory on a plate to the Gresini rider with Jack Miller and Aleix Espargaro also on the podium in Le Mans.

For the third time this season, Enea Bastianini is a MotoGP™ race winner. The Gresini Racing star put in a flawless performance in front of over 110,000 spectators to come out on top of a pulsating SHARK Grand Prix de France.

The Beast capitalized on a mistake from long-time race leader Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) to take the maximum 25 points, while Jack Miller (Ducati Lenovo Team) celebrated his second podium of the season, with Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaro making it three premier class rostrums on the spin.

Max Verstappen holds off Charles Leclerc for crucial win in Miami
Miami          [8 May 2022]

Max Verstappen caught and passed both Ferraris and held off late pressure from Charles Leclerc to win the first Miami Grand Prix.

Starting third, defending world champion Verstappen bullied his way past the Ferrari of Carlos Sainz at Turn 1 to move up to second before overtaking Leclerc on Lap 9. Verstappen's Red Bull had looked set for a routine win from there until Lando Norris' McLaren was spun out of the race by Pierre Gasly, prompting a safety car in the closing stages.

That brought Leclerc right back onto his tail, but Verstappen drove faultlessly to stay ahead, cutting the Ferrari driver's championship lead to 19 points in the process.

Impeccable Bagnaia holds off Quartararo in Jerez showdown
Jerez, 1 May 2022

The World Champion piled on the pressure in the final laps but the Italian held firm, whilst Aleix Espargaro ended Aprilia's concessions.

It's the showdown that has built all weekend long: Ducati Lenovo's Francesco Bagnaia vs Monster Energy Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo. The pair were in a class of their own at the Red Bull Spanish Grand Prix with victory, despite incredible late pressure, going the way of Bagnaia as he officially announced himself as part of the title race.

Quartararo was forced to settle for second but did take an outright lead in the World Championship. Meanwhile, in the fight for third, Aleix Espargaro broke clear in the final laps to end Aprilia's MotoGP™ concessions after six long years.
