Bottas eases to Sochi win over Verstappen as penalty leaves Hamilton P3
Sochi          [27 September 2020]

Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas scored his second win of 2020 at the Russian Grand Prix, benefitting from a penalty for his polesitting team mate Lewis Hamilton that left the six-time champion third at the flag, as Max Verstappen claimed Red Bull’s first ever podium at Sochi in P2.

Hamilton began the race on the back foot, after a pair of practice start infringements on his laps to the grid led to him being handed a 10s penalty mid-race, ruling him out of contention for the win, as he came home in P3.

Bottas, meanwhile, had passed Verstappen for second at the race start, before benefitting from Hamilton’s penalty to enjoy an untroubled run to the chequered flag for the ninth win of his career, at the venue where he scored his first back in 2017. It would have been an important confidence booster for Bottas, too, with the Finn’s previous victory having come at the season- opening Austrian Grand Prix back in July.

Mir and Rins earn Suzuki first double podium since 2007
Catalunya, 27 September 2020

The Hamamatsu factory celebrated their best day at the office since Misano 2007 thanks to superb rides from the Spaniards.

Mir has been a revelation this season and in Barcelona, the Spaniard produced another Sunday stormer to finish P2. It’s his third-straight podium, one that sees him become the first Suzuki rider since Kenny Roberts Jr in 2000 to take three rostrums on the bounce, and one that lifts Mir to second in the Championship standings – eight points away from Catalan GP race winner Fabio Quartararo (Petronas Yamaha SRT).

Mir is the in-form man in MotoGP™ and yet again produces a podium after qualifying outside the front two rows, eventually missing out on the victory by less than a second.

Bagnaia crashes from lead, Quartararo handed 3-second penalty, Mir and Pol Espargaro on the podium, 6 different winners in 7 races.

Whoever is writing the 2020 MotoGP™ script, bravo, because the Gran Premio TISSOT dell'Emilia Romagna e della Riviera di Rimini was another absolute stunner. Maverick Viñales (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) made it six different winners in seven races in a race that was jam-packed full of drama from the outset.

From P11 on the grid, Joan Mir (Team Suzuki Ecstar) stands on the podium again at Misano and Pol Espargaro (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) completed the rostrum after Fabio Quartararo (Petronas Yamaha SRT) was handed a three-second penalty for exceeding track limits, demoting the Frenchman to P4.

Franco Morbidelli (Petronas Yamaha SRT), take a bow! The Italian on home soil produced 27 inch-perfect laps to secure his maiden MotoGP™ victory in a dramatic Gran Premio Lenovo di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini.

Morbidelli took the chequered flag 2.217 ahead of compatriot Francesco Bagnaia (Pramac Racing), who celebrates his first premier class podium, with Joan Mir (Team Suzuki Ecstar) getting the better of home hero Valentino Rossi (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) on the last lap to claim another podium finish. Meanwhile, now former Championship leader Fabio Quartararo (Petronas Yamaha SRT) crashed out twice at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli.

Gasly holds off Sainz for stunning first F1 win
Monza          [6 September 2020]

Alpha Tauri's Pierre Gasly held off Carlos Sainz to claim an astonishing first Formula One victory at a wild Italian Grand Prix.

A stop-go penalty for Lewis Hamilton and a race stoppage blew what had looked like a routine race wide open. Gasly was the man who capitalised, just over 12 months since he was demoted from Red Bull back to its junior team due to a lack of good results.

Sainz, also searching for his maiden F1 victory, closed right up to Gasly on the final lap but was never close enough to make a move. He crossed the line just 0.4s behind Gasly's car. Racing Point's Lance Stroll took the third and final podium spot.
