How 'original hype man' Will Smith spurred Lewis Hamilton to a final win in 2018.
Yas Marina          [25 November 2018]

Lewis Hamilton credited an unconventional spot of preparation with "big brother" Will Smith for his victory at the final race of the Formula One season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Hamilton, crowned champion for the fifth time in October, invited his friend Smith to the race as the Hollywood actor had put attending a Formula One grand prix with the British driver on his bucket list.

The two men were front and centre for the pre-race drivers' parade and Smith continued to play a starring role in the broadcast, running across the track with a green flag before the start and trying his hand at working a trackside camera.

A dramatic season finale saw 'Race 1' red-flagged as Ducati rider claims P1 after re-start, Rins takes P2 and Espargaro gets emotional P3.

Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) claimed the final MotoGP™ victory of 2018 at the Gran Premio Motul de la Comunitat Valenciana finish ahead of Alex Rins (Team Suzuki Ecstar) and Pol Espargaro (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) in a hugely dramatic two-part race.

The red flags came out after 14 laps as heavy rain fell, with several riders crashing out of contention, including World Champion Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda Team) and Maverick Viñales (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) – riders ok.

Interlagos          [11 November 2018]

Lewis Hamilton won an action-packed Brazilian Grand Prix after Max Verstappen crashed out of the lead following a collision with a lapped backmarker.

The result of the race secured the constructors' championship for Mercedes, but the main talking point after the chequered flag was how Verstappen missed out on victory.

Räikkönen took third place after Ferrari struggled for pace throughout the race. The Finn had to battle hard to hold off Daniel Ricciardo in the final laps of the race and crossed the line 0.429s ahead of the second Red Bull. Bottas ran as high as second on the opening lap of the race but dropped to fifth by the chequered flag as he struggled with tyre degradation. Vettel also had a race to forget as he dropped from second on the grid to sixth at the finish.

Victory number 70 for the seven-time Champion comes after 'The Doctor' crashes with four laps to go...

Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda Team) claimed his 70th career win after taking victory at the Shell Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix. The 2018 Champion looked set to lock horns with nine-time World Champion Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP), but the race would end in disaster for ‘The Doctor’, as Alex Rins (Team Suzuki Ecstar) and Johann Zarco (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) completed the podium at the Sepang International Circuit.

When the lights went out it was Rossi who got a stellar launch from P2, with pole man Zarco slightly sluggish off the line – ‘The Doctor’ got a comfortable holeshot, with Zarco managing to brake late to slot into P2. Jack Miller (Alma Pramac Racing) was able to leapfrog Andrea Iannone (Team Suzuki Ecstar) into P3 at the start, with Márquez making up one position in P6.

Hamilton finished in fourth place, but with title rival Sebastian Vettel failing to win the race, he would have been crowned champion, regardless of his finishing position.

It was a scrappy race for Hamilton, as he struggled with tyre wear throughout and dropped positions, but he will soon forget those minor setbacks as the scale of his remarkable achievement sinks in.

Viñales puts a stop to Yamaha's 25-race losing streak with a phenomenal Phillip Island victory.

One year, four months, three days. That’s how long Yamaha have waited to taste a MotoGP™ victory but at long last, at the Michelin® Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, Maverick Viñales (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) crossed the line in P1 to lift the curse.

With four laps to go the gap was hovering around four seconds but then Andrea Iannone (Team Suzuki Ecstar) and Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) started to reel in the Yamaha at a high rate of knots, with Viñales’ lead being cut to 1.8 seconds with two laps to go. Viñales didn’t lose sight of his target though and took the victory at a track he really, really enjoys.

Austin          [21 October 2018]

Ferrari's Kimi Räikkönen won an enthralling U.S. Grand Prix as Lewis Hamilton missed out on an opportunity to clinch the title at the Circuit of the Americas on Sunday.

Hamilton needed to outscore title rival Sebastian Vettel by eight points to secure the title, but a combination of race strategy and brilliant drives by Räikkönen and Max Verstappen ahead deprived him of the points gap he needed and left him third at the finish.

Although Vettel is still mathematically in the title hunt, it had nothing to do with his own race as he spun out on the opening lap trying to pass Daniel Ricciardo and had to recover from 15th to fourth.

A race-long battle with Dovi ends with the Italian crashing with two to go, handing the Spaniard title number seven.

Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda Team) wrapped up a sensational seventh World Championship title at the home of Honda after claiming a stunning victory at the Motul Grand Prix of Japan, a race-long battle with Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) ended with the latter crashing out of contention at Turn 10 with two laps to go, handing the title to the number 93.

Crutchlow held off Rins for P2 at the line, with Rins less than two tenths behind the British rider to secure a phenomenal home podium for Suzuki. Rossi brought his YZR-M1 home in a second consecutive P4, with Alvaro Bautista (Angel Nieto Team) claiming P5 in Japan after a strong latter half to the race – an equal best result of the season for the Spaniard. Breathtaking. A word that perfectly encapsulates the first ever PTT Thailand Grand Prix which saw Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda Team) emerge victorious to take another giant leap towards the 2018 MotoGP™ World Championship, as the battle in Buriram went down to the wire between the Spaniard and second place Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) with Movistar Yamaha MotoGP’s Maverick Viñales claiming a valiant comeback podium.

It was Márquez who got the holeshot from pole as the lights went out, with Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) tucked in behind his rival from P2 on the grid. Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda Castrol) launched well from P5 to slot into third, before Dovizioso re-took P3 into Turn 3 as the front three in qualifying held station, spearheading the field into a high-speed game of chess at the Chang International Circuit.

Lewis Hamilton on verge of title after Japan win, Sebastian Vettel sixth.
Suzuka          [7 October 2018]

Lewis Hamilton has inched ever closer to a fifth world championship after dominating an incident-filled Japanese Grand Prix as title rival Sebastian Vettel once again hit trouble.

Vettel had enjoyed a lightning start to go from eighth to fourth by the end of the first lap but his race, and championship challenge, unraveled soon after. On lap eight, the German attempted a dubious pass on Red Bull's Max Verstappen upon entry into Spoon Curve, only to run out of tarmac. As a result, the pair made light contact and Vettel was spun around, dropping back to last place.

He recovered to finish P6 after scrapping his way past the midfield teams, but with Hamilton claiming yet another win, he has slipped to what is surely an insurmountable 67 points behind in the championship standings. In fact, Hamilton can claim the title next time out in Austin if he is to win and Vettel doesn't finish second.

Team orders are an unfortunate part of Formula One, but Mercedes' use of them at the Russian Grand Prix was entirely justified.

Even Sebastian Vettel -- the driver who arguably lost more from the decision than Valtteri Bottas -- said as much after being dealt another hammer blow to his chances of a fifth world championship.

Once Lewis Hamilton had forced his way back into second position after a thrilling fight with Vettel, barring any unforeseen drama Mercedes looked certain to leave Sochi with 43 points regardless of which order its cars finished. The choice the team had was simple: whether Hamilton left with 18 (a gain of three points) or 25 (a gain of seven points). Mercedes chose the latter.

Lap 21 saw Márquez make the race-defining move at Turn 5, and the reigning World Champion held firm until the checkered flag to take a third straight win in Aragón, equaling Mike Hailwood’s win tally of 41 for Honda in the process. Hamilton beats Verstappen, Vettel in Singapore.
Marina Bay          [16 September 2018]

Lewis Hamilton extended his lead in the championship to 40 points over Sebastian Vettel after converting pole position into victory at the Singapore Grand Prix.

The result represents a hammer blow for Vettel's title hopes as the Ferrari driver could only manage third place behind Red Bull's Max Verstappen in second. Vettel had gone into the Singapore weekend desperate for victory after winning just one of the last four races compared to Hamilton's three, but a poor qualifying performance on Saturday and a botched strategy on Sunday saw him lose another 10 points to his title rival.

Vettel had moved ahead of Verstappen for second place at the start of the race, but Ferrari dealt him a lousy hand by switching him to the ultra-soft compound tyre instead of the more resilient soft at his on and only pit stop on lap 13. Hamilton pitted a lap later and Mercedes opted to counter Ferrari's strategy by switching the race leader to softs -- the safer and more stable tyre to use for such a long stint to the chequered flag.

The Italian makes it three in a row for Ducati and three Italian winners on race day with his first Misano win.

Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) took an expertly-crafted victory in the Gran Premio Octo di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini, picking his way into the lead and unleashing incredible pace to secure only the second ever win for Ducati at the venue. His win also makes it three in a row for the Borgo Panigale factory, having won at Brno and teammate Jorge Lorenzo following that up with victory in Austria.

Lorenzo was the man on the chase at Misano, too, but there was late drama as the five-time World Champion slid out on the penultimate lap after dueling Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda Team). Márquez took second at the flag, with Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda) putting in an impressive ride to take third and come home as top Independent Team rider.

Monza          [2 September 2018]

Lewis Hamilton beat Kimi Räikkonen to victory at an enthralling Italian Grand Prix despite making contact with title rival Sebastian Vettel on the opening lap of the race.

The win, which included a bold overtake on Raikkonen for the lead on lap 45, sees Hamilton take a 32-point lead over Vettel in the standings with seven races remaining. Räikkonen had to settle for second -- a disappointing result for the local Tifosi after the strength of Ferrari's performance over the weekend -- after taking his first pole position of 2018 on Saturday.

Max Verstappen finished third on the road but was demoted to fifth at the finish for an over-zealous defence against Valtteri Bottas on lap 43. The Red Bull driver was given a five-second penalty for colliding with Bottas in the braking zone at Turn 1 as the Mercedes looked to go around the outside and Verstappen cut him off. Not only did the penalty drop Verstappen behind Bottas, it also saw him slip behind Vettel, who recovered from his first corner collision with Hamilton to take fourth.

Hungaroring          [29 July 2018]

Lewis Hamilton took his fifth win of the season with victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix as title rival Sebastian Vettel and teammate Valtteri Bottas came to blows on track behind him.

In a race dominated by tyre strategy, Hamilton converted Saturday's hard-earned pole position into 25 world championship points with a faultless race from the front. Meanwhile, Vettel, who started fourth on the grid, saw his shot at victory using an alternative strategy fall apart with a slow pit stop on lap 39, keeping him in third place behind Bottas when he emerged from his pit stop with 31 laps remaining.

Bottas, who was on much older and harder tyres than Vettel, held off the Ferrari until lap 66 when his the Mercedes' rubber finally ran out of grip and left him vulnerable at Turn 2. Vettel managed to get the run on Bottas out of Turn 1 and then squeezed the Mercedes to the inside under braking for Turn 2. Bottas, with no front end grip from his 51-lap old soft tyres, ploughed into the back of Vettel at the apex, damaging his fornt wing as the Ferrari miraculously escaped undamaged.

Hockenheim          [22 July 2018]

Lewis Hamilton won a dramatic German Grand Prix after title rival Sebastian Vettel crashed out from the lead in wet conditions.

Hamilton, who started 14th on the grid, led home a Mercedes one-two at Hockenheim, but only after team orders (for both Ferrari and Mercedes), a rain shower and a Safety Car had mixed and re-mixed the order. Vettel's failure to finish -- after sliding off the road in Hockenheim's stadium section while running slick tyres in damp conditions -- means Hamilton has taken a 17-point lead in the drivers' championship with ten races remaining.

Although the race swung on a rain shower on lap 44, the German Grand Prix wasn't without drama up to that point. Hamilton had fought his way back into contention with a long stint on the soft tyres from 14th on the grid, while a split strategy at Ferrari saw Kimi Räikkonen, who finished third, and Vettel tripping over each other.

Although the result wasn't what the majority of the 130,000-strong crowd had hoped for, they were treated to an afternoon of first-class entertainment as their home hero finished on the podium despite being taken out in Turn 3 by Kimi Räikkonen and dropping to the back of the field. Hamilton achieved the result with the help of a strategy gamble around a Safety Car on lap 33, and in doing so limited the deficit to Vettel in the championship to just eight points after 10 races.

Räikkonen finished third after Valtteri Bottas, who had led the race following a second Safety Car period with 11 laps remaining, dropped to fourth on a set of heavily-worn tyres.

Max Verstappen took a shock home victory for Red Bull at the Austrian Grand Prix after both Mercedes cars retired from the race with reliability issues.

Verstappen took the lead of the race thanks to a Mercedes strategy blunder just after Valtteri Bottas' retirement with a hydraulics issue. The Mercedes pit wall failed to pit Lewis Hamilton under the resulting Virtual Safety Car, which eventually relegated him down the order when he pitted under full racing speed.
A livid Hamilton retired in the closing stages as his car slowed to a halt at Turn 3 with a loss of fuel pressure.

Starting from sixth place, Sebastian Vettel wasn't able to take full advantage of title rival Hamilton's problem, but still took third directly behind Ferrari teammate Kimi Räikkonen. The podium finish returned Vettel to the lead of the championship by a single point and moved Ferrari to the top of the constructors' championship.

A series of switch changes on Ricciardo's steering wheel helped manage the issue, while Vettel also suffered his own problems when his steering wheel display went blank on lap 39.

As soon as Hamilton led into Turn 1 his victory did not appear to be in doubt, with the Mercedes able to open up a comfortable gap to the chasing Vettel behind. Vettel had beaten Valtteri Bottas into the first corner and stayed ahead after the first round of pit-stops, but Ferrari's decision to stop for a second set of medium tyres in the final stint ultimately relegated him to fourth.

It capped off a disappointing afternoon for Ferrari, who saw Kimi Räikkönen retire after suffering a loss of power with a brand new engine which had been fitted to his car on Saturday morning.

High drama in Jerez: Márquez wins as contenders collide.
Jerez, 6 May 2018

It could prove a pivotal race in Spain, with Márquez taking the win as Lorenzo, Dovi and Pedrosa all collide.

Reigning Champion Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda Team) took a stunning second win of the season – and his second win at Jerez – in the Gran Premio Red Bull de España, fighting to the front and just able to pull away into clear air, away from some huge drama that then hit the race behind.

In a pivotal day in the Championship, an unbelievable racing incident saw Jorge Lorenzo (Ducati Team), teammate Andrea Dovizioso and Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda Team) all crash out in one go at Turn 6 – with Johann Zarco (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) and Andrea Iannone (Team Suzuki Ecstar) then coming through to complete the podium.

Lewis Hamilton claims stunning win in thrilling Baku finish.
Baku          [29 April 2018]

Lewis Hamilton took his first victory of the season at a dramatic and chaotic Azerbaijan Grand Prix after the race on its head by a late collision between the Red Bulls.

Sebastian Vettel looked set for a comfortable victory for the majority of the race, but the Safety Car changed everything. Bottas, who had yet to pit up until that point, inherited the lead as Vettel and Hamilton behind him also took on new tyres for a four-lap dash to the flag.

As the race restarted, Vettel attempted to pass Bottas for the lead into Turn 1 but went too deep and ran wide, conceding places to Hamilton and teammate Kimi Räikkönen. One lap later and race leader Bottas hit some debris on the pit straight, causing a left rear puncture that took him out of the race on the spot.

Sublime Daniel Ricciardo charges to China win, Vettel eighth.
Shanghai          [15 April 2018]

Daniel Ricciardo emerged victorious at a mesmerising Chinese Grand Prix after the lead changed several times and drama unfolded among the top six drivers.

Strategy, controversy and some of the best wheel-to-wheel racing for years combined to create a 56-lap thriller in which Ricciardo jumped from sixth under a Safety Car on lap 35 to the lead of the race in less than ten laps.

Key to Red Bull's first victory of the year was a decision to fit fresh soft tyres on both Ricciardo and teammate Max Verstappen under the Safety Car to allow them to attack Ferrari and Mercedes, which had traded the lead of the race up to that point.

Independent Team rider Crutchlow back on the top step after a stunner, with huge drama for Márquez and Rossi.

Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda Castrol) has taken an impressive third ever Grand Prix victory in the Gran Premio Motul de la Republica Argentina, besting Johann Zarco (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) and Alex Rins (Team Suzuki Ecstar) on the final lap to earn the honour of winning the 750th GP race for Honda.

But the headlines must be shared, with drama for Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda Team) as the reigning Champion accrued a number of penalties and clashed with Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP), with the fuse on the title fight now fired up and on full power.

Sebastian Vettel beats Valtteri Bottas to Bahrain win.

BIC          [8 April 2018]

Sebastian Vettel took his second win of the season on Sunday night after holding off Valtteri Bottas for victory in a tense finish to the Bahrain Grand Prix.

The race boiled down to a strategic battle between Ferrari and Mercedes, with Bottas using a fresher set of tyres in the closing stages to attack the Ferrari which had led from the start.

The Finn closed in on Vettel's tail on the final lap but despite looking to the inside at Turn 1, he couldn't make a move stick and had to settle for second. It is the first time Ferrari has won the opening two races of the season since 2004 and gives Vettel a 17 point lead in the championship.

Sebastian Vettel stuns Lewis Hamilton to win in Melbourne
Albert Park          [25 March 2018]

Sebastian Vettel won the season-opening Australian Grand Prix against the odds after taking advantage of a Virtual Safety Car to beat Lewis Hamilton to victory.

Hamilton had looked locked on for a win from pole position for the first 25 laps, but found himself shuffled behind Vettel's Ferrari when Romain Grosjean stopped on track with a loose wheel nut.

The resulting Virtual Safety Car gave Vettel, who had yet to pit, an opportunity to make a tyre change while the rest of the field was going at a reduced speed, and in doing so he emerged ahead of Hamilton.

Dynamite Dovizioso takes first honours of 2018 in #QatarGP
Losail, 18 March 2018

0.027s splits the top two as Dovizioso takes the first victory of the season from eighth position on the first lap.

Opening the season with a sensational final lap performance, Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) beat Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda Team) to the line at the Losail International Circuit by just 0.027s, with Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) completing the podium.

Frenchman Zarco shot off pole position to take the lead into the first corner under the floodlights of Qatar, but there was nothing to split the top ten riders in the opening laps, and it looked as if any one of them could fight for the victory throughout the 22-lap thriller. With fastest laps flying in on each lap, Zarco was still able to keep hold of the lead despite facing some tense competition.
