Valtteri Bottas holds off late Sebastian Vettel charge for first F1 win
Sochi          [30 April 2017]

Valtteri Bottas held off a late charge from Sebastian Vettel to claim his maiden Formula One win at the Russian Grand Prix, crossing the line just 0.6 ahead of the Ferrari driver.

An early Safety Car failed to liven up the race for the lead and the processional race only came alive in the closing stint as Vettel slashed away at Bottas' lead, albeit to no avail. Raikkönen claimed a much-needed first podium of 2017 in the other Ferrari, ahead of Lewis Hamilton, whose frustrating weekend continued with a lonely and agitated drive to fourth position.
The three-time world champion failed to jump either red car into Turn 2 and spent much of the race nursing his overheating Mercedes around the Sochi Autodrom, and he finished a massive 36 seconds behind his Mercedes teammate.

Magic for Márquez and a crash for Viñales
Austin, 23 April 2017

A win for the number 93 as Viñales slides out – and the ‘Doctor’ takes the points lead.

Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda Team) initially fought it out with teammate Dani Pedrosa for victory in the Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas, before being able to break clear in the latter laps of the race to take his stunning fifth win in a row in Austin – his 11th straight win on US soil in an incredible statistic. Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) then put on a late charge to take second, with Pedrosa completing the podium – and former Championship leader Maverick Viñales crashing out early on.

Sebastian Vettel wins tense Bahrain Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton second
Sakhir          [16 April 2017]

Sebastian Vettel claimed the outright lead of the Formula One championship by winning a tense Bahrain Grand Prix, despite a late charge from Lewis Hamilton.

In a race which saw Valtteri Bottas, Vettel and Hamilton all lead at different stages of the race, Ferrari's decision to pit early ultimately won it, as did a Safety Car period which forced Mercedes to double stack its drivers at the pit stop. It was at that moment Hamilton made a crucial mistake, holding up Daniel Ricciardo on entry to the pit lane and earning a five-second penalty, meaning he had to sit stationary at his final stop.

A Maverick masterclass and a Marquez crash
Termas de Rio Hondo, 9 April 2017

MotoGP™ has a tendency to keep making history of late, and the Gran Premio Motul de la Republica Argentina was no different - as Maverick Viñales (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) became the first Yamaha rider since Wayne Rainey in 1990 to win the first two races of the year, taking a stunning win as drama hit the grid behind. Teammate Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) created another miracle in P2, with LCR Honda’s Cal Crutchlow completing the podium in style as top Independent Team rider.

Viñales soon attacked Crutchlow to take P2, before the first of the high drama hit up ahead and Marquez suddenly hit the floor at Turn 2 – having been almost two seconds clear.

Lewis Hamilton wins action-packed Chinese Grand Prix
Shanghai          [9 April 2017]

Lewis Hamilton took his first win of the season in an absorbing Chinese Grand Prix, which started in the wet, finished in the dry and provided entertainment throughout.

The race started in damp conditions and early stops for soft tyres, plus Virtual Safety Car and Safety Car periods, caused several different pit strategies to unfold. Sebastian Vettel recovered from an early pit stop to finish second, while Max Verstappen stole the plaudits with an incredible first lap -- seeing him go from 16th to seventh -- before crossing the finish line in third 55 laps later.
