Lewis Hamilton beats Nico Rosberg to comfortable Mexico win
Mexico City          [30 October 2016]

Lewis Hamilton won a comfortable Mexican Grand Prix ahead of Nico Rosberg, who did all he had to do to remain in control of his own destiny in the championship fight.

Hamilton's win cut the gap to Rosberg to 19 points in the standings, but with just two races left, victory for Rosberg at the next round in Brazil would secure him the title. Hamilton's victory only once looked under threat as he locked up at Turn 1 on the first lap. He later explained it was due to a low temperature on his right front brake and he escaped penalty for skipping Turn 2 entirely.

Honour roll: the 9 winners - so far
Sepang, 30 October 2016

Recap the incredible nine victors of the season so far as Dovizioso hammers home a historic year

There had already been eight different MotoGP™ winners in 2016 when the paddock touched down in Sepang, which was the greatest number of different winners in a single season in the MotoGP™ era. The only other year in the 68 year history of motorcycle grand prix racing that there were eight different winners in a premier-class season was in 2000, when eight riders won 500cc Grands Prix: Kenny Roberts Jnr, Garry McCoy, Valentino Rossi, Max Biaggi, Alex Barros, Alex Criville, Loris Capirossi and Norick Abe.

Lewis Hamilton beats Nico Rosberg for vital U.S. Grand Prix win
Austin          [23 October 2016]

Lewis Hamilton took a commanding victory at the U.S. Grand Prix to give his slim championship chances a boost at a crucial point of the season.

It was Hamilton's first victory since the German Grand Prix in July and moves him to within 26 points of teammate Nico Rosberg, who secured second despite losing a position to Daniel Ricciardo's Red Bull at the start. At one stage it looked as though Hamilton might finish with two Red Bulls between him and Rosberg, but as Max Versatppen's race unravelled with a slow pit stop and engine failure, Rosberg capitalised with a 'free' pit stop under a Virtual Safety Car caution period.

Nico Rosberg claims big win in Japan, Lewis Hamilton third
Suzuka          [9 October 2016]

Nico Rosberg extended his lead in the drivers' championship to 33 points with an assured victory at the Japanese Grand Prix as Lewis Hamilton had to go on a recovery drive to third after a poor start.

Rosberg and Hamilton started the race side by side on the front row of the grid, but Hamilton suffered wheelspin as the lights went out, dropping him to eighth place as he exited the first corner. From that point onwards Rosberg faced no real opposition for the win, while Hamilton was tasked with a battle through the field over the remaining 53 laps.

Daniel Ricciardo wins dramatic Malaysian GP, Hamilton's engine fails
Sepang          [2 October 2016]

Daniel Ricciardo won a dramatic Malaysian Grand Prix ahead of Red Bull teammate Max Verstappen after Lewis Hamilton retired from the lead of the race with an engine failure on lap 40.

For 39 laps everything was going Hamilton's way as he led the battling Red Bulls by over 20 seconds and title rival Nico Rosberg recovered through the field following contact with Sebastian Vettel at the first corner. But as Hamilton approached Turn 1 for the 40th time a lick of flame from the exhaust signaled a problem before the engine lost all power and ground to a halt on the exit of the corner. With smoke still coming from the rear of the car, the reigning world champion came to a halt with his head in his hands, knowing that his pursuit of a fourth world title had just become significantly more difficult.
