Miller walks on water for miraculous first win
TT Assen, 26 June 2016

A red flagged race put the MotoGP™ riders through their paces, Jack Miller mastering the wet to take his maiden premier class win.

Known for his ability in the wet, Jack Miller (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS) made steady progress off the line and soon found himself in second behind Márquez. After an injury hit start to the season Miller seized his chance and took the lead of the race at the final chicane on lap four. Márquez tried to close down the Australian but Miller kept his cool. Miller’s victory is the first MotoGP™ win by an Australian since Casey Stoner’s final victory in Phillip Island in 2012. He also becomes the first rider on a non-factory bike to win a race since Toni Elias won the infamous Portuguese GP in 2006.

Nico Rosberg wins as Lewis Hamilton struggles to fifth in Baku
Baku          [19 June 2016]

Nico Rosberg took a lights to flag victory at the Grand Prix of Europe to score his fifth win of the season and re-establish a 24-point lead over Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton in the drivers' championship.

Hamilton's was left fifth at the end of the race after an incorrect setting saw him down on power and as much as two seconds per lap slower than race leader Rosberg. Under new regulations this season, the pit wall was unable to tell him how to rectify the issue and despite briefly finding a setting on lap 42 that allowed him to up his pace by over three seconds, his lap times soon dropped off again.

Lewis Hamilton holds off Sebastian Vettel for victory in Canada
Montreal          [12 June 2016]

Lewis Hamilton beat Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel to victory in a tense strategic battle at the Canadian Grand Prix, blowing the title race wide open with two thirds of the season remaining.

Vettel led the race after the first corner, but a decision to pit during a brief Virtual Safety Car period on lap 10 saw him shift on to an awkward two-stop strategy while Hamilton and Mercedes kept it simple on a one-stop. Ferrari's decision overcomplicated what should have been a shot at victory by giving away track position, but the pace of the Mercedes was clear towards the end of the race and may have proved too much for Vettel had he also one stopped. Low temperatures made the Pirelli tyres even more difficult to predict than normal, but no doubt an inquest will be conducted at Maranello after another missed opportunity for victory.

Rossi gets revenge in Barcelona thriller
Catalunya, 5 June 2016

A race full of drama saw Rossi win a thrilling battle over Márquez as Iannone takes out Lorenzo.

Anticipation for the MotoGP™ World Championship race at the circuit de Barcelona – Catalunya continued to grow as the riders sat on the grid, hiding from the scorching sun beneath their umbrellas. Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda Team) was on pole position, but both Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) and Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) seemed to have found something on the new layout in Warm Up. High track temperatures had riders cautious about tyre life, everyone except for the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 riders, Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda Team) and Tito Rabat (Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS) lined up with hard tyres.

Two perfect final laps saw Rossi glide to his second win of the season and return the championship to a three-way battle. A mistake at Turn 7 on the penultimate lap cost Márquez the chance of winning, taking second and moving to the head of the championship. Handshakes were exchanged between the two in Parc Ferme, the thrill of a great battle burying any hard feelings that may have lingered. All of the riders took to the podium wearing shirts to honour the memory of the late Luis Salom.
